1996-97 TROOPER (UX), 1996-97 RODEO (UC), AND 1997 HOMBRE (TH) MIL LIT; POOR DRIVEABILITY CONDITIONS

APPLICABLE VEHICLES

- 1996-97 Trooper (UX) models.
- 1996-97 Rodeo (UC) models equipped with 3.2L engine.
- 1997 Hombre (TH) models equipped with 2.2L engine and manual transmission.

SERVICE INFORMATION

Some affected vehicles may experience a condition in which one or more of the following driveablity conditions is present:

1996-97 Trooper (UX)

^ Malfunction indicator light (MIL) lit with MISFIRE DTC P0300 - P0306 set

^ Audible engine knock, no DTCs set (A/T models only)

1996-97 Rodeo (UC) With 3.2L V6 Engine

^ MIL lit with MISFIRE DTC P0300 - P0306 set
^ MIL lit with EVAP DTC P1441 set
^ Audible engine knock, no DTCs set (A/T models only)

1997 Hombre (TH) With 2.2L Engine and Manual Transmission

^ MIL lit with MISFIRE DTC P0300 - P0304 set























To repair this condition(s), follow the applicable diagnostic flow chart(s) included in this Service Bulletin. To reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) or vehicle control module (VCM), refer to the applicable calibration number listed in the appropriate engine calibration matrix in this Service Bulletin.

NOTE
Knock Calibration (B) includes Default Calibration (A).

NOTE
Use Calibration # 16259983-CCZM for models with at 3.73 axle ratio. USe Calibration # 16263023-CCZS for models with a 4.10 ratio axle ratio.

The axle ratio is listed as an Option Code on the Service Parts Identification Label affixed to the inside of the vehicle's glove box. Option Code GT4 refers to a 3.73 axle ratio. Option Code GT5 refers to a 4.10 axle ratio.

Use the following new labor operation for reprogramming the powertrain control module (PCM):





Labor time includes administrative time allowance.

1997 Hombre (TH) Models With 2.2L Engine and M/T

Use published Flat Rate Manual labor operation number 03J6355D for reprogramming the vehicle control module (VCM).
