Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Power Steering Fluid: Testing and Inspection

PROCEDURE
1. Run the engine until the power steering fluid reaches normal operating temperature, about 80°C (170°F), then turn the engine "OFF".
2. Clean surrounding area of reservoir cap before removing.
3. Remove the reservoir cap and check the fluid level on the dipstick.
4. If the fluid level is low, add power steering fluid to the proper level and install the reservoir cap.
5. When checking the fluid level after the steering system has been serviced, bleed the air from the system.
