Heater Core: Service and Repair

HEATER CORE
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the heater hoses.
3. Remove the instrument panel.
4. Remove the air inlet assembly, if equipped.
5. Remove the vacuum lines.
6. Remove the heater assembly studs inside the engine bay.
7. Remove the blower motor resistor.
8. Remove the stud inside the heater case housing.
The stud is revealed by removing the blower motor resistor.
9. Remove the heater box retaining screws.
10. Remove the heater box assembly from the vehicle.
11. Remove the heater core access cover screws.
12. Remove the heater core access cover.
13. Remove the heater core from the heater box.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the heater core to the heater box.
2. Install the heater core access cover.
3. Install the heater core access cover screws.
4. Install the heater box assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Note in Service Precautions.

5. Install the heaterbox retaining screws.

Tighten
Tighten the screws to 4.5 N.m (40 lb in).

6. Install the stud inside the heater case housing.
7. Install the blower motor resistor.
8. Install the heater assembly studs inside the engine bay.

Tighten
Tighten to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).

9. Install the vacuum lines.
10. Install the air inlet assembly.
11. Install the instrument panel.
12. Install the heater hoses.
13. Install the engine coolant.
14. Check the system for leaks.
