Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Road Speed Sensor:






PURPOSE
Sensor provides a pulse signal interpreted as road speed and factored into various ECU calculations. Signal is also used by instrument cluster for road speed display.

OPERATION
Sensor is a variable reluctance coil device producing a pulsed signal. Pulse frequency is calculated by ECU as road speed. Pulses are generated at the rate of 7870 per mile (4920 per kilometer).

LOCATION
Left differential output shaft.
