Air Injection Pump: Service and Repair

Fig. 17 Air Pump Service:

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect the air pump cable harness electrical connector.
3. Disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses from the air pump, Fig. 17.
4. Loosen the link arm adjustment nut.
5. Loosen the adjusting block bolt.
6. Loosen the the link arm pivot bolt.
7. Loosen the air pump pivot bolt, move the air pump towards the engine and remove the air pump drive belt.
8. Remove the adjusting block bolt.
9. Remove the rear spacer and rear cone, then the pump assembly.
10. Remove the clutch pulley nut.
11. Remove the clutch plate, pulley retaining ring, and bearing assembly.
12. Remove the clutch housing retaining ring, and clutch housing.
13. Clean all mating surfaces, then reverse procedures to install, adjusting the drive belt as the final step.
