Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Fig. 21 Catalytic Converter:

1. Remove the oxygen sensor from the vehicle.
2. Raise the front of the vehicle and place on safety stands.
3. Remove the brace to converter hardware, loosen the brace to bell housing bolt, and position the brace out of the way.
4. Remove the hardware securing the converter, Fig. 21, to the intermediate exhaust pipe, move the clamp to the rear, and disconnect the pipe from the converter.
5. Remove the hardware securing the converter to the exhaust manifold and remove the exhaust manifold from the vehicle.
6. Remove the sealing materials from and clean all mating surfaces.
7. Reverse procedures to install, using new sealing materials.
