Bench Test

1. Mount starter in a vise and connect a 12 volt battery to starter case and terminal.
2. Refer to Starting and Charging/Starting System/Starter Motor/Specifications for correct current and speed values.
3. If starter operates properly, check solenoid as follows:
a. Connect positive terminal to main solenoid terminal.
b. Connect a jumper lead and touch to lucas solenoid connector.
c. If starter fails to operate, solenoid or contacts are faulty.
