Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

DTC Manual Reset Procedure

Without Jaguar Diagnostic System (JDS) or Portable Diagnostic Unit (PDU), DTCs can be reported on the instrument pack display and cleared one by one using the following procedure:

Reset Connector:

Reset Connector:

1. Locate the DTC reset connector.
XJS Range - purple male PM5 connector with a YG (yellow/green) wire, located behind the passenger side center console footwell panel.
Sedan Range - red male Econoseal connector with KR (pink/red) wire, located behind the passenger side under dash panel.

2. Record the highest priority DTC.
Switch ON the ignition. On Sedan Range vehicles, press the VCM button. On XJS vehicles a code is automatically displayed 5 seconds after the ignition is switched ON. Record the code

3. Clear the highest priority DTC.
To clear the code from the display and from the ECM memory, connect the wire in the DTC reset connector to ground for 3 seconds.

4. Check for additional flagged DTCs.
Check for additional codes by switching the ignition OFF for 5 seconds and repeating steps 2 and 3.

NOTE: Disconnecting the battery negative cable will also erase ALL stored codes. However, you will need to recode the radio and possibly the Alarm transmitters after reconnecting the battery.
