ISSUE:

Some Sedan Range vehicles in the above VIN range may experience the following condition(s):

A) Locate illumination flickering on the radio, cigar lighter, door switch packs and other interior control panels.

B) Locate illumination that is permanently on at a reduced brightness, noticeable on the radio, cigar lighter, and door switch packs resulting in a discharged battery.

These conditions are caused by the failure of the output transistor on the Dimmer Module circuit board.

ACTION:

If a customer complains of the above symptoms, the latest Dimmer Module Assembly should be installed as described in the following procedure. At the same time, the Dimmer Module power ground, FCG 26R, at the transmission tunnel ground stud, should be cleaned and checked for tightness.

1. Position the driver's seat fully rearward.

2. Disconnect the vehicle negative battery cable.

3. Remove the lower steering column cowl.

4. Slide the harness connector of the Dimmer Module up out of the mounting bracket and disconnect it from the vehicle harness.

5. Disconnect the harness connector between the rheostat and the Dimmer Module.

6. Slide the Dimmer Module up out of the mounting bracket.

7. Locate the left hand console ground stud (FCG 26R) on the left side of the transmission tunnel, Illustration 1.

8. Disassemble ground lead eyelets and ensure that the mating faces of the ground stud as well as the eyelets are clean.

9. Re-install the eyelets and nut on the stud. Torque the nut to 3.6 - 5.1 lb ft (5 - 7 Nm).

10. Use a digital display multimeter to check the continuity of the Dimmer Module power ground at the Dimmer Module vehicle harness multiplug between SC1 - Pin 4 (black) and the battery negative lead.

11. Install the new Dimmer Module assembly in the mounting bracket.

12. Connect the rheostat harness connector to the Dimmer Module.

13. Connect the vehicle harness to the Dimmer Module connector and slide it into the mounting bracket.

14. Install the lower column cowl.

15. Reconnect the vehicle battery.

16. Reset the clock.
