Test 3-Alternator Cable Continuity


Fig. 1 Cable Continuity Test:






1. Disconnect leads from alternator terminals and switch on ignition.
2. Using a voltmeter, check for battery voltage between ground and each terminal. Fig. 1.
3. If a low or zero reading is obtained on main +B lead, check starter solenoid connections, terminal posts and battery connections.
4. If a low or zero reading is obtained on +D lead, check warning lamp, wiring from ignition switch to warning lamp and the wiring from warning lamp to alternator.
5. Reconnect leads to alternator if no fault is found, or if fault is rectified and switch ignition off.
