Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Throttle position is detected by the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) , which reports to the ECM.

The CTS 518 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is situated under the throttle housing and locates on the slotted end of the throttle spindle. It is not possible to move the sensor position to effect adjustment, the ECM will adapt to the TP position and compensate for ageing and wear of components. The analogue voltage signal supplied to the ECM is proportional to throttle angle.
