CONDITION SUMMARY:

STEERING COLUMN TILT/REACH MECHANISM INOPERATIVE AND/OR HEAVY STEERING

Situation:
A concern may be reported that the steering column tilt/reach mechanism is inoperative or that the steering is heavy. Additional data has been provided in the latest Instrument Cluster (IC) control module configuration to resolve these concerns.

Action:
Should a concern be discovered, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to reconfigure the IC control module using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS).

TOOLS:

IDS DVD104 with Patch File 2 (or later) software installed

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

RECONFIGURE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTROL MODULE

NOTE:
This procedure requires IDS DVD104 with Patch File 2 or later software.

CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis and module configuration.

1. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.

2. Connect IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle.

3. Follow the IDS prompts to read the vehicle configuration.

4. When prompted "Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?", select "NO" and then press "tick" to continue.

5. When the "Content Model" is displayed select "Vehicle Configuration" tab.

6. Select "Module Programming".

7. Select "Configure Existing Module".

8. Select "Software Enhancement Program".

9. Select "Instrument Cluster Control Module".

10. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

11. When the task is completed, exit the current session.

12. Disconnect IDS and the power supply from the vehicle.
