Input Shaft-Mainshaft Disassembly

Input Shaff-Mainshaft Disassembly

Separate the input shaft assembly (F) from the mainshaft assembly (G).

Remove the bearing race (32) from the front bearing (31).





Remove the front bearing from the input shaft (30) with an arbor press and tools B.V.I. FM. 07 and B.V.I. FM. 09.





Remove the pilot bearing race (29) from the input shaft (30) with remover tool B.V.I. FM. 10.





Mark the third-fourth synchronizer and hub for assembly reference. Then remove the synchronizer (24) from the hub (23).





Remove the pilot bearing (28) and the bearing preload shims (27) from the mainshaft. Use an arbor press and puller J 22912-01 T.Ar. 65 or B.V.I. FM. 21 to remove the bearing. Tag the preload shims for assembly reference.





Remove the snap ring (26) and spring washer (25) from the mainshaft.





Remove the third-fourth synchronizer hub (24), third gear (22) and third gear needle bearing (21) from the mainshaft (20).





Remove the reverse gear nut (5). Also remove the washer (6) if the transmission is equipped with one.

Remove the reverse gear (7), rear bearing retainer (8) and rear bearing race (9).





Press the rear bearing (10) three-quarters of the way off the mainshaft (20) with an arbor press and tool B.V.I. FM. 07. Do not press the bearing completely oft the mainshaft at this time.





Mark the first-second synchronizer (16) and hub (17) for assembly reference.

Tap the rear bearing (10) off the mainshaft (20) with a rawhide mallet. Then remove: shim (11); spacer (12); first gear (15); first gear needle bearing (13); bearing spacer (14); first-second synchronizer (16); synchronizer hub (17); second gear (19) and second gear bearing (18).

NOTE: Mark or note position of the synchronizer lugs (a) for assembly reference.
