Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The purpose of this system is to reduce the formation of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by diluting the fresh intake air fuel charge with a metered amount of exhaust gas. This reduces the peak combustion temperatures of the burning gases in the combustion chambers.
