Differential Axle Housing: Service and Repair

1980-83

1. Raise and support vehicle and remove rear wheels.
2. Scribe alignment marks on propeller shaft and axle for proper assembly, then disconnect propeller shaft from axle.
3. Disconnect shock absorbers at axle tubes.
4. Disconnect hydraulic brake hose at rear axle tee fitting, taping ends of hose and fitting.
5. Disconnect parking brake cable at equalizer.
6. Support axle with suitable jack.
7. Remove U-bolts and, on vehicles with spring mounted above axle, disconnect spring at rear shackle, then slide axle from under vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
