HARD START OR ENGINE MISS CONDITION

Some 1987 Cherokee/Wagoneer models with the 4.0L engine may exhibit either a hard start, no start, or an intermittent engine miss condition. All of these conditions may be due to an open wire in the stator harness or a defective throttle position sensor.

Service correction involves testing with the MS 1700 tester to determine which component is at fault and replacing the defective component. If a new stator harness is installed, a harness clip, PN 8953 005 253, should also be installed.
