Drive Belt: Service and Repair
Belt tension is adjusted at the alternator. Refer to DRIVE BELT AND CHAIN ROUTING.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Loosen alternator front adjusting bolts and pivot bolt.
3. Loosen alternator rear adjusting bolt.
4. Install a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar or ratchet into adjusting hole in bracket and tighten to adjust belt tension to 180-200 ft. lbs. for a new belt and 140-160 ft. lbs. for a used belt.
5. Torque to specifications.
6. Connect battery ground cable.
