Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Maintenance Required Lamp/Indicator: Service and Repair

Emissions Maintenance Reminder Timer Location:

1988 to 1990 Wrangler

The emission maintenance timer will illuminate an indicator lamp on the instrument cluster when vehicle mileage has reached 82,500 miles. At this time, the oxygen sensor and PCV valve should be replaced, in addition to the other required emission maintenance scheduled for this mileage.
If the timer should fail before vehicle has accumulated 82,500 miles, the timer and oxygen sensor should both be replaced to maintain a proper sensor replacement interval.

After performing the required service, replace the emission maintenance timer as follows:
The timer is located under the instrument panel to the right of the accelerator pedal.
Remove emission maintenance timer to dash bracket attaching screws.
Remove timer, then disconnect electrical connector.
Connect electrical connector to replacement timer, then position timer to dash panel and install and tighten attaching screws.
