Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Continuity/Voltmeter Tests

As a result of diagnostic tests (engine and/or transmission), voltage readings or continuity checks may be required to isolate a fault. The tester can function as either a voltmeter or a continuity tester.

When fault is displayed at the end of a test, the VOLT/OHM key is activated (before the fault is displayed, the VOLT/OHM key is not functional).

Pressing the VOLT/OHM key once will enable the voltmeter and the message VOLT METER will be displayed. Voltage appearing at the meter probe will be displayed (units of volts) on the tester.

Pressing the VOLT/OHM key again will enable the continuity check and the message CONTINUITY CHECK will be displayed. If continuity to ground is sensed (<=180 ohms), the message CONTINUITY is displayed. If there is no continuity to ground (> 180 ohms), the message NO CONTINUITY is displayed.

Pressing the VOLT/OHM key once more will display the original fault. Repeatedly pressing the VOLT/OHM key will result in the functions toggling between the Voltage check, the Continuity check, and the fault display.
