Airbag System Diagnostic Module (ASDM)

Warning: Before attempting to diagnose, remove or install any airbag system components, unless otherwise noted, you must first disconnect and isolate battery ground cable. Failure to do so could result in accidental deployment and possible personal injury.


Warning: The ASDM contains one of the impact sensors which enables the system to activate the airbag. To avoid accidental deployment, never connect ASDM electrically to system unless it is bolted to vehicle.

1. Disconnect and isolate battery ground cable, then wait at least 10 minutes prior to performing services.
2. Remove center console as follows:
a. Remove screws from bottom of center console storage bin.
b. Remove transmission shift handle.
c. Remove parking brake and transmission shift bezels and the bulbs from the bezels.
d. Remove screws under transmission shift bezel.
e. Move transfer case and transmission shift levers rearward.
f. Lift console up and remove it from the vehicle.
3. Disconnect wiring at ASDM.
4. Remove screws retaining ASDM and then the ASDM.
5. Do not connect battery ground cable. Refer to Testing and Inspection/Procedures.
