Campaign - ABS Brake Controller
No. 598November, 1993
To: All Jeep(R) & Eagle Dealers
Subject:
Customer Satisfaction Notification # 598 -- ABS Brake Controller
Models:
1993 and 1994 Model Year Jeep Wrangler (YJ) Vehicles Equipped With Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) Built Through August 17, 1993
Repeated voltage spikes (generated by turning the ignition switch off when the A/C and/or heater blower switch is in the low position), gradually cause the ABS controller to short circuit and blow the ABS lamp relay fuse. This results in illumination of the yellow ABS lamp and disabling the ABS system.
To correct this condition, a jumper harness containing a diode must be installed in the blower motor wiring harness.
Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION -- ABS Brake Controller
Dear Jeep(R) Vehicle Owner:
Because the satisfaction of our customers is very important to Chrysler, we are requesting owners of certain 1993 and 1994 model Jeep(R) Wrangler vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes to return them to their dealers for a special service. Your vehicle, identified on the enclosed form, is affected. The service and required parts as described in this letter will be provided free of charge.
The service is needed to prevent failure of an internal component in the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) controller. This would cause a fuse to blow, resulting in lighting of the yellow ABS lamp on the instrument panel and disabling the ABS system. The normal braking system will continue to operate properly.
To correct the condition, your dealer will install a wiring jumper harness. The work will take about one-half hour to complete. However, additional time may be required depending on how dealer appointments are scheduled and processed. To arrange for this free service:
Contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule a service appointment.
Take the enclosed Owner Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies the vehicle and the service that is required.
If you have any problem obtaining the needed service, please contact the Chrysler Zone Service Office in your area as shown in the listing on the reverse side of this letter. A Zone representative will arrange for prompt servicing of your vehicle.
We regret any inconvenience that this action may cause you. However, we believe that this special service will help to ensure your continuing satisfaction with your Jeep Wrangler.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
