Extension Housing: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1. Hoist and support vehicle on safety stands.
2. Support transmission with a suitable lifting device.
3. Remove transmission skid plate.
4. Remove propeller shafts.
5. Remove transfer case.
6. Remove bolts holding extension housing to transmission case.
7. Separate extension housing from transmission.
8. Slide extension housing rearward and off output shaft.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: Clear gasket material from sealing surfaces on extension housing and rear of transmission. Replace output shaft bearing and seal if necessary.
1. Place extension housing gasket in position on rear of transmission.
2. Slide extension housing forward and over output shaft.
3. Guide park shaft into park spray and push extension housing forward until rod passes through opening behind spray. It may be necessary to use a wire to hold spray to the side for rod to pass through.
4. Install bolts to hold extension housing to rear of transmission.
5. Install transfer case.
6. Install propeller shafts.
7. Install rear transmission mount and skid plate.
8. Lower vehicle and verify transmission fluid level. Add fluid as necessary.
