Starter Motor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.

Starter Removal/Install:

3. Disconnect the battery cable and solenoid feed wire from the starter solenoid.
4. Remove the two starter mounting screws, the starter motor, and any starter motor shims.

NOTE: Shim thickness available is 0.381 mm (0.015 in.). See Starter Noise for more information.

5. Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the starter hardware as follows:
- Mounting screws - 45 N.m (33 ft. lbs.)
- Solenoid battery cable nut - 10 N.m (90 in. lbs.)
- Solenoid terminal nut - 6 N.m (55 in. lbs.).
