Brake Pad: Service and Repair
REMOVAL - FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel and tire assembly.
3. Remove caliper.
4. Pressing one end of outboard pad inward to disengage pad lug. Then rotate pad upward until retainer spring clears caliper. Press opposite end of pad inward to disengage pad lug and rotate pad up and out of caliper.
Inboard Brake Shoe Removal:
5. Grasp ends of inboard pad and tilt pad outward to release springs from caliper piston and remove pad from caliper.
NOTE: If original brake pads will be used, keep them in sets left and right. They are not interchangeable.
6. Secure caliper to nearby suspension part with wire. Do not allow brake hose to support caliper weight.
7. Wipe caliper off with shop rags or towels.
CAUTION: Do not use compressed air, this can unseat dust boot and force dirt into piston bore.
INSTALLATION - FRONT DISC BRAKE PADS
1. Install inboard pad in caliper and verify pad retaining is fully seated into the piston.
2. Starting one end of outboard pad in caliper and rotating pad downward into place. Verify pad locating lugs and pad spring are seated.
3. Install caliper.
4. Install wheel and tire assembly.
5. Remove support and lower vehicle.
6. Pump brake pedal until caliper pistons and brake pads are seated.
7. Top off brake fluid level if necessary.
