Removal






REMOVAL




1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
3. Slide shift lever boot (1) up and remove shift lever bolt and lever (2).




4. Remove drain plug (1) and drain fluid.
5. Remove transfer case skid plate.
6. Remove 3.8L catalyst assembly.
7. Mark installation reference marks on propeller shaft/shafts and remove shafts.
8. Remove transfer case shift linkage, wiring connector, and vent hose, if equipped.
9. Remove transfer case, if equipped.




10. Remove clutch slave cylinder (1) nuts (2) and remove cylinder.




11. Remove backup lamp switch (2) wiring connector (1).




12. Remove starter (1) bolts (2) and remove starter.




13. Support transmission with jack.
14. Remove transmission mount, crossmember (1) and skid plate (2) bolts. Lower and slid crossmember out left side of the vehicle.




15. Remove transmission bolts from engine (1) and structural cover (2).

NOTE: Do not remove the structural cover from the engine. If cover is removed clutch housing and structural dust cover must be aligned with the engine.
