Body - Front Fender Support Repair Procedures
NUMBER: 31-006-12GROUP: Collision Bulletin
DATE: August 10, 2012
SUBJECT:
Repair Procedures For Front Fender Supports (AKA Fender Closure, Front Upper Hydroform And Shotguns)
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin discusses the proper installation of front fender supports.
MODELS:
2007-2012 (JK) Wrangler
DISCUSSION:
Collision damage to the front end of the vehicle may require replacement of one or both of the fender supports. Unlike other Chrysler vehicles utilizing a similar design, which all have a partial replacement procedure for the fender supports. Wrangler components must be replaced in their entirety. Failure to do so may cause the vehicle to no longer provide the same occupant protection in a future collision event. Chrysler has not published any recommended partial replacement guidelines for this vehicle. Proper access for replacement of the components will require removal and replacement of the front portion of the body side aperture. Removal of the instrument panel for adequate backside weld access is also necessary. Structural adhesive and weld-bonding is utilized in the manufacturing installation process of the components and must be duplicated.
