Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

Description:

PRIMARY COIL WINDING
1. Disconnect coil wire connector C137 from distributor.
2. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of primary coil at connector terminals 1 and 2 on the distributor.

Primary coil resistance: 0.49 - 0.73 ohms. at 68°F (20°C)

Description:

SECONDARY COIL WINDING
1. Remove the distributor cap.
2. Check resistance of secondary coil between connector terminal 1 and the secondary coils high voltage terminal.

Secondary coil resistance: 20 - 31 K ohms at 68°F(20°C)

3. If the coil fails either test, replace the distributor assembly.
