Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection


Sensor Inspection





1. Disconnect the three-pin crankshaft position sensor connector.
2. Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 wit an ohmmeter.

Resistance: 500 - 600 ohms at 68°F [20°C]

3. If not as specified, replace the crankshaft position sensor.
4. Measure the resistance between terminal 3 of connector C164 (wiring harness side) and engine ground.

Resistance: Approximately 0 ohms

5. If not as specified, check for an open in the circuit.
6. Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.

Air Gap Inspection





1. Measure the air gap between the crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft position sensor by using a feeler gauge.

Specification: 0.020- 0.059 in (0.5- 1.5 mm)

2. If not as specified, replace the crankshaft pulley or the crankshaft position sensor.
