Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Inspection/Adjustment Procedure

* NOTE: The Throttle Stop Screw is factory set and must not be adjusted. Any adjustment will negatively affect the engine performance.

1. Verify that the throttle valve is closed.
2. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.

3. Check for continuity between throttle position terminals 1 and 2 using an ohmmeter.

4. Insert a 0.006 in (0.15 mm) feeler gauge between the throttle adjusting screw (TAS) and the throttle lever. Verify that there is continuity.
5. If there is no continuity, loosen the two sensor attaching screws and adjust the throttle position sensor until there is.
6. Insert a 0.020 in (0.5 mm) feeler gauge between the TAS and the throttle lever. Verify that there is no continuity.
7. If there is continuity, loosen the attaching screw and (with the feeler gauge in place) adjust the throttle position sensor.
8. Repeat steps 4 through 8 until both conditions are satisfied.
9. If unable to satisfy both conditions, replace the throttle position sensor.
