Heated Glass Element: Description and Operation

Rear Window Defroster
The rear window is equipped with heating elements that clear condensation, frost and light snow. Baked on the inside surface, the heating elements, or grid lines, are connected to vertical bus bar lines that comprise an electrical circuit. When the dash-mounted switch is pressed, electric current is supplied through an under- dash relay and timer control unit for 15 minutes. Should the rear glass not be cleared, the switch must be pressed again for another 15 minute heating cycle.

Defroster Switch
The defroster switch turns on window defrosting and indicates the defrosting is in operation.


Rear Defroster ("R-DEF") Indicator
The rear defroster "R-DEF" indicator lamp indicates the rear window defroster is on.
