Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Brake Warning Indicator: Testing and Inspection

Brake warning lamp and switch

Brake warning lamp illuminates when brake fluid level is below the standard value with the ignition switch on, or, when the brake fluid level sensor or parking brake switch is on with the parking brake pulled up.

NOTE: Brake fluid level sensor is located in the master cylinder reservoir tank.

1. Disconnect the brake fluid level gauge connector.

2. Check continuity between terminals with the ignition switch off. (The float rises)

3. Check continuity between terminals with the ignition switch on. (The float lowers)
If continuity is not as specified, replace the sensor.
