Thermostat: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
1. Drain the coolant to thermostat level or below.
2. Remove the engine coolant inlet fitting and gasket.
3. Remove the thermostat.

INSPECTION





1. Heat the thermostat as shown in the illustration.
2. Check that the valve operates properly.
3. Check to determine the temperature at which the valve begins to open.
Valve opening temperature 80 - 84°C (176 - 183.2°F)
Full opening temperature 95°C (203°F)

INSTALLATION
1. Check that the flange of the thermostat is correctly seated in the socket of the thermostat housing.
2. Install the engine coolant inlet fitting.
Tightening torque
Engine coolant inlet fitting bolt 17 - 20 Nm (170 - 200 kg-cm, 12 - 14 ft. lbs.)
3. Refill the coolant.
