Fuel System - Fuel Tank Replacement

SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 7 Issue 5, 2004

TITLE: Fuel Tank Replacement

APPLIES TO: Optima and Amanti

SERVICE TIP:

Replacement fuel tanks for Optima and Amanti as ordered/received from PDCs do not have the "non-return" valve assembly included/installed. To prevent delays in repair completion, order a new valve (P/N 31160 38155) along with the new fuel tank if you suspect the non-return valve is damaged or will require replacement. If the original valve was functioning properly it should be removed from the old fuel tank and installed in the new fuel tank. The "non-return" valve assembly needs to be installed in the fuel tank to prevent fuel spitback while filling the tank with fuel. It also helps prevent hydrocarbons (HCs) from escaping the fuel tank and into the atmosphere when the fuel filler cap is removed.
