Crankshaft

Crankshaft
1. Check crankshaft bearing and crank pin journals for damage and scoring.
2. Check oil holes for clogging.
3. Set crankshaft on V-blocks.

4. Measure crankshaft run-out at center journal. Replace crankshaft if it is not within specification.
Run-out: 0.00098 inch (0.025 mm)

5. Use a micrometer to measure crankshaft main bearing journals and crank pin journals at X and Y direction as shown.

Crankshaft journal diameter:
Journal main:
Diameter: 2.1629 - 2.1636 inch (54.938 - 54.956 mm)
Out-of-round: 0.0020 inch (0.05 mm) Maximum
Journal crank pin:
Diameter: 1.7693 - 1.77 inch (44.940 - 44.958 mm)
Out-of-round: 0.0020 inch (0.05 mm) Maximum

6. Grind crankshaft only if there is visible scoring, or if out-of-round is excessive.
7. Only grind crankshaft amount necessary to correct condition.
8. If a crankshaft must be ground 0.020 inch (0.50 mm) or more, heat-treat crankshaft to ensure durability.

Main journal diameter undersizes:
Journal diameter:
0.010 inch (0.25 mm) undersize: 2.1728 - 2.1735 inch (55.188 - 55.206 mm)
0.020 inch (0.50 mm) undersize: 2.1826 - 2.1833 inch (55.438 - 55.456 mm)
0.030 inch (0.75 mm) undersize: 2.1924 - 2.1931 inch (55.688 - 55.706 mm)

Crank pin journal diameter undersizes:
Journal diameter:
0.010 inch (0.25 mm) undersize: 1.779 - 1.780 inch (45.190 - 45.208 mm)
0.020 inch (0.50 mm) undersize: 1.7889 - 1.7897 inch (45.440 - 45.458 mm)
0.030 inch (0.75 mm) undersize: 1.7988 - 1.7995 inch (45.690 - 45.708 mm)

Main Bearing and Connecting Rod Bearings

1. Check main and connecting rod bearings for peeling, scoring and other damage.
