Coolant: Testing and Inspection

Inspection

Warning:
a) Never remove radiator cap while engine is hot.
b) Wrap a thick cloth around radiator cap before removing.
c) When removing radiator cap, loosen slowly to first stop and wait until pressure in radiator is released, then completely remove.

Level (engine cold)





1. Locate coolant level overflow reservoir. See functional diagram to check coolant level. Refer to Cooling System; Diagrams; Fluid.
2. Add coolant as necessary.

Coolant quality





1. Verify that there is no build-up of rust or scale around radiator cap or radiator filler neck.
2. Verify that coolant is free of contaminants. Replace coolant if necessary.
