Control Arm: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Lift front of vehicle and support it with safety stands.
2. Remove wheel and tire.
3. Remove pivot bolt.
4. Remove lower arm ball joint bolt and nut from steering knuckle.
5. Remove three mounting bolts.
6. Remove retaining nut, washer and rear control arm bushing.
7. Remove two ball joint mounting nuts and bolts from lower control arm.
8. Secure ball joint in a vise.





9. Carefully use a chisel to remove dust boot from ball joint.

Notice: Do not damage ball joint.

10. Remove the front control arm bushing.
11. Remove control arm.

Replacement
1. Apply general-purpose grease to new tire dust boot.





2. Press the dust boot onto the ball joint with an suitable tool.
3. Install the ball joint to the lower arm and tighten two ball joint mounting nuts and bolts.
Tightening torque: 69 - 86 ft. lbs. (93 - 117 Nm, 9.5 - 11.9 kg-m)
4. Install rear control arm bushing with a washer and tighten retaining nut.
Tightening torque: 69 - 86 ft. lbs. (93 - 117 Nm, 9.5 - 11.9 kg-m)
5. Tighten the three mounting bolts.
Tightening torque: 69 - 86 ft. lbs. (93 - 117 Nm, 9.5 - 11.9 kg-m)
(A) : 40 - 50 ft. lbs. (54 - 68 Nm, 5.5 - 6.9 kg-m)
6. Put the ball joint into the knuckle and tighten the lower arm ball joint pinch bolt and nut.
Tightening torque: 32 - 40 ft. lbs. (43 - 54 Nm, 4.4 - 5.5 kg-m)
7. Tighten the pivot bolt after installing the front control arm bushing.
Tightening torque: 69 - 86 ft. lbs. (93 - 117 Nm, 9.5 - 11.9 kg-m)
8. Recheck caster and camber and Readjust if necessary.
