A/T - Test Port Leaks

TITLE: A/T Test Port Leaks

APPLIES TO:

SERVICE TIP:

A number of transmissions from the 1.8L Sephia/Spectra and 1.5L/1.6L Rio are being returned for leaks from the transmission pressure test ports. The majority of these leaks are due to technicians reusing the test port plugs and trying to reseal these plugs with RTV or a similar sealer. Installation of new test port plugs is specified in the Kia Service Manual after line pressure testing. New test port plugs (P/N MFU60 19423A) have threads coated with a special sealant that will prevent leaks when properly installed. Transmissions that are returned with claims for leaks around the test port plugs that have reused plugs and no other concerns will be a charge back to the dealer. Transmissions that are returned with cross-threaded plugs or cracked cases will be charged back to the dealer for the cost of the transmission case. To prevent leaks, new test port plugs must be installed each time a test port plug is removed. New test port plugs must always be installed and tightened down by hand before being torqued to 44-86 lb in (5-9.8 Nm).
