Sunroof - Vibration/Chatter While Operating

Subject:
PITSTOP: 2011 SORENTO (XM) PANORAMIC SUNROOF GLASS VIBRATION/CHATTER WHILE OPERATING

2011 Sorento (XMa) Panoramic Sunroof Glass Vibration/Chatter while Operating

On 2011 Sorento (XMa) model vehicles, built prior to March 24, 2010 and equipped with Panoramic Sunroof Option, the Sunroof Glass can vibrate causing a chatter sound during operation. If you encounter a customer vehicle with this concern, a lack of lubrication at the Sunroof Track Channel could be the cause.

First, inspect the Sunroof Channel for any binding or broken parts (repair as necessary). Open the Sunroof completely and use shop air to blow out any foreign material or dust build up. Inspect the Sunroof Track Channel for proper grease application. It is possible, that the grease has not throughly spread to lubricate the entire track channel. A simple step of applying a generic brand silicone lubricant such as SIL-GLYDE will solve this issue. Make sure you use an adequate amount to completely lubricate both right and left track channels. Operate the sunroof by opening and closing several times to spread the applied grease throughout the channel.
