Distributor Cap Resistor - Elimination

Bulletin: P93/86-006

Section: Product

Date: 6/3/93

Model: Range Rover

Defender 110

Applicable to: USA/CND

Subject:
ELIMINATION OF DISTRIBUTOR CAP RESISTOR - PART NO. PRC5086

Recent engineering tests have found that the distributor cap ignition resistor, part no. PRC5O86, is no longer required for radio static suppression. Coil wires used on Range Rover and Defender are of the resistor type which eliminate the need for this additional resistance.

Vehicles delivered after VIN ... PA638357 will no longer have this resistor installed.

ACTION REQUESTED

At the next service opportunity on any vehicle 1990 model year or newer, remove and discard the distributor cap resistor. Reinstall the coil wire as shown in the illustration and note the preferred routing from the cap to the coil. Make sure that the distributor cap end of the coil wire is aligned between ignition wires 5 and 7.

In the unlikely event of a customer complaint of radio static after removal of the resistor, please contact the Technician Hotline for assistance.
