DEFENDER 110 - VOLTMETER (BATTERY CONDITION METER) CONDENSATION COMPLAINTS

Since the Defender 110 voltmeter is a sealed unit, trace amounts of moisture trapped in the gauge during manufacture can, under certain conditions, cause slight fogging of the lens. To reduce the problem, the gauge manufacturer installs a pellet of silica gel to absorb moisture. Even so, a combination of heat caused by the gauge illumination bulb and a cold lens can result in misting.

Since all N.A.S. Defender 110's are equipped with air conditioning (no dash vents), the sealed feature is not required. Customer complaints of voltmeter condensation should be addressed by ventilating the rear of the gauge using the procedure.

WORK PROCEDURE

Remove the grey fascia panel and gauges as an assembly (note the hidden fascia retaining screws behind the A/C louver assemblies).

Remove the voltmeter from the panel.





Drill two - 2 mm (3/32") holes where indicated on the illustration.

CAUTION:
Drill only deep enough to penetrate the gauge case. Use a drill stop to prevent damaging gauge internals.

Reassemble and test gauge operation/illumination.
