Starter Motor: Service and Repair

Remove

1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
2. Raise the vehicle.

WARNING: Support on safety stands.




3. Remove nut securing feed wires to starter solenoid.
4. Remove 2 feed wires from solenoid terminal.
5. Release Lucar from solenoid.
6. Remove 2 bolts securing starter motor to engine.

NOTE: Use two extensions as illustrated to gain access to the top bolt.




7. Remove starter motor.

Refit
8. Ensure mating faces are clean.
9. Fit starter motor.
10. Fit bolts. Tighten to 45 Nm. (33 lbf.ft)
11. Fit Lucar to starter solenoid.
12. Connect feed wires to solenoid terminal. Secure with nut.
13. Remove stands and lower vehicle.
14. Reconnect battery negative lead.
