No: 19/02/05/NASFGN 310-002
Ref:
Issue: 1
Date: 10 November 2005
Throttle Body Electrical Connector
Contamination
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Freelander (LN) All
SITUATION:
MIL ILLUMINATES AND VEHICLE GOES INTO "LIMP-HOME" MODE
A customer may report a concern that the "Service Engine Soon" (MIL) warning lamp illuminates and the vehicle goes into "Limp Home" mode. Codes P0606 or P0102 may be discovered upon investigation. The throttle body electrical connector may be contaminated or have a poor connection.
RESOLUTION:
INSTALL NEW LINK HARNESS TO THROTTLE BODY
NOTE:
Fault code P0102 is related to the MAF sensor, and in this instance it is flagged as a result of the throttle issue. DO NOT carry out any repairs on the MAF sensor unless the code reappears after road testing the vehicle.
Should a customer report the MIL and "limp-home" symptoms with codes P0606 and P0102 stored and with the possibility of codes P1141, P1142, P1628, P1629, P1636, P1637, P1638, P1639, P1677, P1687 and P2070, install a new link harness to the throttle body electrical connector. Follow the Repair Procedure outlined below.

2. Refer to GTR Workshop Manual, section 112.30.50 and remove the engine acoustic cover.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle body. (Figure 1)
4. Remove tape from the harness convoluted tube, to expose the wiring. (Figure 2)
CAUTION:
To ensure that the new convoluted tube will fit over the repaired harness, the wires must be cut to stager the splice locations.
5. Cut each wire individually to match the corresponding wire on the new link harness (YMQ501850).
6. Position the heatshrink and splice the new link harness, using the supplied connector.
7. Position the heatshrink over each splice connection (Figure 3) and apply heat, using a suitable heat gun and a heat shield.
8. Install the new convoluted tube to the harness and secure with tape. (Figure 4)
9. Connect the electrical connector to the throttle body.
10. Install acoustic cover.
11. Connect the battery.
12. Clear fault codes relating to this problem using T4.
13. Perform a road test to ensure the vehicle is operating normally and that the "Check Engine Soon" (MIL) lamp is not illuminating.
