Navigation System Inoperable/Rear Quarter Water Ingress

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
Range Rover (LM) VIN: 3A101029 to 6A226169

CONDITION SUMMARY:

NAVIGATION SYSTEM INOPERABLE/REAR QUARTER WATER INGRESS
Situation: A customer may report a concern that the Satellite Navigation does not operate and only displays the Land Rover logo. In some cases, the radio or the telephone Bluetooth functionality may also be inoperative. Water ingress in the area of the left-hand rear quarter glass or body panel may allow water to enter into the navigation unit, resulting in the concern. In extreme conditions, water ingress may affect any of the following modules, if equipped:
^ Telephone Control Unit (TCU).
^ DVD player.
^ Satellite Digital Audio Radio System (SDARS) tuner/receiver.
^ Power amplifier.

Action: When repairing any faults to Navigation Units or other electrical hardware in the left hand rear of the vehicle caused by water ingress, refer to the applicable model year Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin to install water ingress protection when replacing the navigation unit.

NOTE: Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE: GTR lookup sequence is as follows:

CAUTION: Before disconnecting the battery:
^ All procedures and cautions for Battery Disconnection listed the Electrical Precautions section of GTR must be adhered to.
^ IDS must be connected and correct procedures adhered to.
^ After switching off the ignition, 2 minutes must elapse. Failure to wait 2 minutes will damage the navigation computer.

INSTALL WATER SHEDDER

2003 THRU 2004 MY VIN

1. Refer to GTR section 86-7 operation 86.53.01 "Computer - navigation up to 05MY" and remove the navigation unit.





2. Remove the navigation unit mounting bracket. (Figure 1)

NOTE: Reference should be made to Land Rover Technical Bulletin no. 76/16/03/NAS "Rear Load Space Water Ingress" to ensure all potential leak paths are Figure 2 identified and repaired.

3. Identify the source of any water leaks and repair as necessary.
4. If any other components are found to be damaged by the water ingress, replace as necessary.
5. Before installing the water shedder (EOT500030), ensure area is clean and dry.
6. Remove the paper backing from the water shedder.





7. Position the water shedder in the vehicle, as shown in Figure 2, and secure in position using the sealant strip.





8. Pierce 3 holes in the shedder in line with the navigation unit Figure 3 mounting studs. (Arrowed in Figure 3).
9. Install the navigation unit mounting bracket. (Figure 1)
10. Refer to GTR section 86-7 operation 86.53.01 and install the navigation unit and vehicle trim.

INSTALL WATER SHEDDER

2005 THRU 2006 MY VIN
1. Remove the rear sub-woofer as follows:
^ Remove the left-hand rear quarter lower trim casing.
^ Remove the two bolts securing the quarter trim support bracket and remove bracket.
^ Disconnect electrical connector from the subwoofer.
^ Remove the two plastic nuts and two bolts securing the subwoofer.
^ Carefully remove subwoofer.

2. Refer to GTR section 86-7 operation 86.53.01 "Computer - navigation from 05MY" and remove the navigation unit. Figure 4
3. Disconnect the fiber optic connection and the electrical connector from the Telephone Control Unit (TCU).(Figure 4)

NOTE: The Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) interface unit is removed for access only. It is not necessary to disconnect the electrical connections.

4. Refer to GTR section 86-7 operation 86.53.48 and remove the RSE interface unit upper bracket and position aside for access.
5. Release the RSE interface unit from its lower location for access.
6. Remove the five bolts and two nuts securing the TCU, DVD player and navigation unit mounting bracket and release the bracket.

NOTE: Reference should be made to Land Rover Technical Bulletin no. 76/16/03/NAS "Rear Load Space Water Ingress" to ensure all potential leak paths are identified and repaired.

7. Identify the source of any water leaks and repair as necessary.
8. If any other components are found to be damaged by the water ingress, replace as necessary.
9. Before installing the water shedder (EOT500030), ensure area is clean and dry.
10. Remove the paper backing from the water shedder.





11. Place the water shedder in the vehicle, as shown in Figure 5, locating the two pierced holes over the studs. Figure 5 12. Ensure the water shedder is pushed down behind the TCU, DVD player and navigation unit mounting bracket.
13. Apply pressure along the sealant strip, ensuring good adhesion to the vehicle.
14. Install the TCU, DVD player and navigation unit mounting bracket and tighten the bolts and nuts to 10 Nm (7 lb-ft).
15. Refer to GTR operation 86.53.01 "Computer - navigation from 05MY" and install the RSE unit.
16. Install the RSE unit upper bracket and secure with screws.
17. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 lb-ft).
18. Connect the fiber optic connection and the electrical connector to the TCU.
19. Install the sub woofer and vehicle trim.
