Valve Clearance: Testing and Inspection

Valve Clearance Check

NOTE:
Only the exhaust cam shaft has adjustable tappets.

WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
1 Raise and support the vehicle.
2 Remove the cover and disconnect the battery ground cable.

3 Remove the camshaft bearing housing.

4 Using the special tools, position and secure the exhaust camshaft.

5 Using the original bolt, install the camshaft sprocket and lightly tighten.
6 For valve clearance data, refer to specifications.

7 Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the camshaft and the valve shim.
8 Remove the camshaft sprocket.
9 Remove the special tools.

10 Install the camshaft bearing housing.

11 Connect the battery ground cable and install the cover.
