Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

NOTE: The cam position and engine speed sensors are not serviceable. If found defective, the distributor must be replaced.

Ignition Wire Removal:





Removal
- Disconnect ignition wires from cap.
- Disconnect distributor electrical connector.

Setting No. 1 TDC:





- Remove oil fill cap.
- Looking through fill hole, rotate engine until cam lobe points upward.

Setting No. 1 TDC:





- Turn crankshaft counterclockwise approximately 120°.
- Bring crankshaft back clockwise until the crank pulley timing mark aligns with the TDC mark on the cover.

Distributor Hold-down Nut:





- Remove hold-down nut and remove distributor from head.


Distributor Alignment:





Installation
- Install new o-ring on distributor shaft.
- Align groove on distributor housing with mark on drive gear.

Distributor Removal:





- Install distributor with stud centered in the adjustment flange.
- Lightly tighten hold-down nut.
- Connect ignition wires and distributor electrical connector.
- Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature.
- Set ignition base timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
