Valve Guide: Service and Repair

1. Remove cylinder head from engine block. See Cylinder Head Assembly.
2. Using a suitable tool and hammer, strike valve guide bushing to break it off at cylinder head casting.
3. Heat cylinder head to 176-212°F (80-100°C).
4. Using suitable valve guide removal tool, tap out bushing.
5. Install snap ring on new valve guide, then install new valve guide using tool as above and driving in from the reverse side of removal.
6. Ream new valve guide, if necessary. Refer to Engine, Specifications, Mechanical for stem clearances.
