Brake Pad: Service and Repair

1. Remove caliper bolts from torque plate, Figs. 1 through 3, then the caliper. Suspend caliper securely. Do not let caliper hang by brake hose.
a. Two anti-squeal springs, if equipped.
b. Two brake pads.
c. Four anti-squeal shims.
d. Two pad wear indicators.
e. Four pad support plates.
2. Install pads as follows:
a. Install wear indicators if necessary.
b. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of inner anti-squeal shim.
c. Install anti-squeal shims to each pad.
d. Install pads with wear indicators facing downward.
e. Install anti-squeal springs if necessary.
3. Remove small amount of brake fluid from reservoir.
4. Using suitable hammer handle, press piston in.
5. Insert caliper and bolts. Tighten caliper bolts to specifications.
6. Install wheel. Tighten wheel lug nuts to specifications.
7. Fill brake fluid reservoir.
