Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

1. Obtain audio anti-theft code, if equipped, as outlined in Technician Safety Information.
2. On all models, discharge system refrigerant, then disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Disconnect suction tube and liquid tube from cooling unit fitting. Cap or plug open fittings to prevent moisture in cooling system.
4. Remove glove compartment door.
5. Remove engine control module and disconnect electrical connectors.
6. Remove cooling unit and A/C amplifier.
7. Remove blower speed control relay and magnetic clutch relay.
8. Remove upper and lower cooling unit case, then the evaporator core, Fig. 26.

9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque cooling unit inlet and outlet tube fittings to 48 in. lb.
b. If evaporator is replaced, add 1.4-1.7 fl. oz. of new refrigerant oil to compressor.
c. Reset audio coded anti-theft system, if equipped, as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
