Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

REPLACEMENT





1. Remove transmission control shaft lever.
2. Disconnect park neutral position switch connector.
3. Remove park/neutral position switch, as follows:





a. Pry off the lock washer and remove the nut.
b. Remove the bolt and park/neutral position switch.
4. Install park/neutral position switch, as follows:
a. Install the park/neutral position switch with bolt.
Torque: 13 Nm (108 inch lbs.).
b. Install a new lock plate and the nut.
Torque: 3.9 Nm (35 inch lbs.).
c. Stake the nut with the lock plate.
d. Adjust the park/neutral position switch.
5. Connect park/neutral position switch connector.
6. Install transmission control shaft lever. Adjust the shift lever position.
Torque:
Park/neutral position switch side: 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
Transmission control rod side: 13 Nm (108 inch lbs.).
