When Scrapping Vehicle Deployment Method
DISPOSALHINT: When scrapping a vehicle equipped with SRS or disposing of the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1, be sure to deploy the airbag first in accordance with the procedure described below.If any abnormality occurs with the airbag deployment, contact the SERVICE DEPT. of TOYOTA MOTOR SALES, U.S.A., INC.
CAUTION:
- Never dispose of the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 that has an undeployed airbag.
- The airbag produces an extremely loud exploding sound when it is deployed, so perform the operation outdoors and where it will not create a nuisance to nearby residents.
- When deploying the airbag, always use the specified SST(s) (SRS Airbag Deployment Tool).Perform the operation in a place away from electrical noise.
- When deploying the airbag, perform the operation at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the instrument panel air-bag assy lower No.1.
- The instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 is extremely hot when the airbag is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
- Use gloves and safety glasses when handling the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 with the deployed airbag.
- Do not apply water, etc.to the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 with the deployed airbag.
- Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR BAG ASSY LOWER NO.1 (WHEN SCRAPPING VEHICLE DEPLOYMENT METHOD)
HINT: Prepare a battery as the power source to deploy the airbag.
a. Check the function of the SST(s).
CAUTION: When deploying the airbag, always use the specified SST(s): SRS Airbag Deployment Tool.

1. Connect the SST(s) to the battery.
Connect the red clip of the SST(s) to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip of the SST(s) to the battery negative (-) terminal.
HINT: Do not connect the yellow connector of the SST(s) which is to be connected with the supplemental restraint system.
2. Check the function of the SST(s).
Press the SST(s) activation switch, and check that the LED of the SST(s) activation switch comes on.
CAUTION: If the LED comes on when the activation switch is not being pressed, SST(s) malfunction is possible, so be sure not to use the SST(s).
3. Disconnect the SST(s) from the battery.
b. Disconnect the airbag connector.
1. Remove the instrument panel finish panel sub-assy lower.
2. Disengage the clamp.
3. Using a screwdriver, disconnect the airbag connector.
c. Install the SST(s).
1. Connect the connector of the SST(s) to the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1.

NOTE: Take care not to damage the SST(s) wire harness.
2. Move the SST(s) to at least 10 m (33 ft) away from the front of the vehicle.
3. Close vehicle doors and windows.
NOTE: Take care not to damage the SST(s) wire harness.
4. Connect the red clip of the SST(s) to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip of the SST(s) to the negative (-) terminal.
d. Deploy the airbag.
1. Check that no one is inside the vehicle or within a 10 m (33 ft) radius of the vehicle.
2. Press the activation switch of the SST(s) and deploy the airbag.
HINT: The airbag is deployed as the LED of the SST(s) activation switch comes on.
e. Dispose of the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1.
CAUTION:
- The instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 is extremely hot when the airbag is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
- Use gloves and safety glasses when handling the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 with the deployed airbag.
- When moving a vehicle for scrapping which has the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 with the deployed airbag, use gloves and safety glasses.
- Do not apply water, etc.to the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 with the deployed airbag.
- Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
HINT: When scrapping a vehicle, deploy the airbag and scrap the vehicle with the instrument panel airbag assy lower No.1 still installed.
